Ecostiletto’s Eco Hero – Christy Coleman Part 4

Fresh Face By Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff

Part Four of Four.

Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff: Your talent for creating a “fresh face” has landed you prestigious advertising campaigns with Ralph Lauren, Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger, among others. Do you ever think brands like these will follow sustainable manufacturing practices? Why or why not?

Christy Coleman: We should hope! However I believe as a consumer it is our responsibility to seek out and support companies that align with our code of ethics. If everyone shopped with this in mind, larger companies would have no choice but to look at their own practices and respond accordingly.

RLS: Do you ever wear vintage or eco-friendly clothing? Any favorite green fashion labels you can share with us?

CC: I am a big fan of vintage clothing. It’s a way to harvest your own personal style. I have been collecting vintage Levi’s for 20 years, as that’s basically all I wear. I’m a huge fan of John Patrick Organics and anything made from organic cotton, and of course Stella McCartney for handbags and shoes!

RLS: What’s the biggest green change you’d like to make in your life—even if it’s impossible right now?

CC: To build my own sustainable home with its own food resources and fill it with rescued island dogs.

RLS: What’s your eco-sin?

CC: Eyelash glue and waterproof mascara. Until there’s a better alternative, I’m stuck with these.

RLS: Who’s your EcoHero?

CC: Rachel Carson and Ken Cook of the Environmental Working Group. True inspirations.
