Blogger Beach Cleanup Reminder!

Blogger Beach Cleanup Reminder!

Hi Everyone! Just a reminder that Blogger Beach Cleanup is taking place this Saturday October 24th. We’re going to be there, and so should you! Come join the Christy Coleman Team!

If you live in LA, come clean the beach for 20 minutes on the International Day of Climate Action with Siel of green LA girl and Sara Bayles of The Daily Ocean! Then mingle and mix with like-minded green Angelenos over drinks and yummies while plotting out a plan for our sustainable future.

When: October 24, 2009. Meet at 4:00 pm; cleanup begins 4:20 pm; more fun ensues afterward!

Where: Santa Monica Beach at Ocean Park, between lifeguard stations 26 and 27. (map)

All you need to do is show up, ready to pick up trash. You’ll clean the beach — but only for 20 minutes (why only 20 minutes? Learn more about The Daily Ocean’s project).

Why you want to be there:

1. The first 25 volunteers to arrive will get a FREE reusable Envirosax bag to use and reuse!

2. You could win cool prizes. We’ll have prizes for:

The top 3 people who pick up the most trash:

>> First Place: $50 gift certificate from Co-opportunity, Santa Monica’s co-op natural grocer. Get your organic fair trade coffee and chocolate or locally made raw desserts with farmers’ market ingredients here.

>> Second Place: A FilterForGood prize pack, including a Brita filter, 2 BPA-free Nalgene bottles, and a copy of The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget.

>> Third Place: A Greenpeace prize pack, including 2 organic T-shirts, a 2010 calendar, a copy of DeSmogBlog’s new book, Climate Cover-Up, and more.

>> The blogger who brings out the most volunteers: $50 gift certificate from The Green Life, a one-stop-shop eco-store on Santa Monica’s popular Main Street.

>> One lucky volunteer traveling car-free: Clif Bar Prize Pack from Clif Bar with two organic T-shirts, Luna cap and socks, upcycled zip-up Clif-Terracycle bag, and a box of Clif Bars.

>>The nonprofit with the best web goal: Web and social media goal-setting and goal implementation with the help of Net2LA.

3. You’ll get free snacks and drinks to fuel your volunteerism, like:

>> Clif and Luna bars — Yummy energy bars and organic fruit rolls! We’ll have new Luna Cookies, Clif Kid, and Mojo bars in new flavors — in addition to the classic Clif and Luna bars.

>> Guayaki’s Lemon Elation — A refreshing, fair trade, organic drink with a yerba mate kick! Plus, Guayaki works to regrow rainforests through its sustainability-minded business model.

4. You’ll meet cool friendly people at the post-cleanup happy hour at:

Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar. Happy hour will feature free appetizers with ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market — plus organic and natural wines. Also, 15% of sales from the wine tasting machines will go to Heal the Bay!
