How To Get Your Best Beauty Sleep ~ Naturally

Beauty rest is essential, but most of us are far from catching the zzzz’s we need. Lack of sleep can compromise our immune system, concentration and the overall glow of being healthy. The rise of insomnia has recently inspired a surge in spa and self help treatments, such as meditation, breathing exercises, massage and aromatherapy, all geared towards helping you drift off to dreamland. Here are a few spa-inspired tips to help you release an overly stimulating day and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.

1) Start winding down a few hours before bedtime. Leave all your “to-do’s” for the next day, reassuring yourself with a written list of reminders. Dim the lights, turn inwards and avoid all stimulation such as caffeine, soda, alcohol, upsetting conversations, and loud or violent TV shows.

2) Tune into the sound of your own breath and become aware of the rise and fall of your belly. Focus on the sounds of soothing music or run a warm (not scalding) bath and soak by candlelight, inhaling a favorite blend of relaxing essential oils.

3) Instead of obsessing over the thoughts and tasks that keep you awake at night , switch to a new mantra – The more rest you get, the more efficient you can be. Turning sleep in to a positive as opposed to a negative can help your mind release and relax.

4) Give up expectations about how much sleep you require. Being awake at night can be restful if you use it as a time for quiet meditation. The more you trust in natural processes and in life in general, the easier it will be to eventually get the right amount of sleep you really need.
