Water
The best way to keep your skin hydrated is to moisturize from the inside out. Since the human body, like the earth, is made up of approximately 70 percent water, it makes sense that we need to continuously replenish our precious bodily fluid, to keep our cells healthy, and our skin soft. The ideal, if you can, is to drink between eight to 10 glasses of water every day.
But finding pure, clean water to drink (and wash with) is becoming more of a challenge. Pesticides, herbicides, even chlorine and lead are just a few of the contaminants that may be polluting our water supply. That’s why it is a good idea to install a water filtration system in your home–not only to purify the water you drink but to cleanse and beautify your face and body.
I also recommend that you try and break your bottled water habit! It’s expensive, and the bottles contribute to the excess waste that is overwhelming our landfills. Plus, the plastic in single-use bottles can pose even more of a contamination threat than polluted water. A safe plastic, if used only once, #1 polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE, as it’s stamped on the bottom of the bottle) is the most common resin used in disposable bottles. However, as #1 bottles are reused, as they commonly are, they can leach chemicals, which you definitely want to avoid.
Instead of relying on bottled or unfiltered water when you leave home and head out into the world, invest in a reusable stainless steel container and bring your own. You’ll spend less, waste less, and keep your body hydrated—and healthy!
