Here is an interview with SpaRitual - They do not formulate with harmful chemicals.
Ingredients Sourced With Awareness:
Q: Do SpaRitual Products contain DBP?
A: No. SpaRitual is the first professional vegan nail care line that is 100% DBP-free.
Q: What is formaldehyde and does it exist in SpaRitual products?
A: SpaRitual does not use formaldehyde in our nail lacquers and treatments, but instead uses tosylamide/formaldehyde resin which is synthesized with 0.3% formaldehyde. This finished resin is washed thoroughly to eliminate any residual formaldehyde, and technically carries only trace amounts of formaldehyde.
Q: Should I be worried about toluene?
A: Toluene is a solvent that has been used in nail lacquers for many decades. After toluene interacts with the polish resins, it evaporates, leaving a uniquely smooth and durable nail lacquer coat. Toluene is considered a safe ingredient. As a matter of fact, a recent study of toluene levels in the air in nail spas and salon conducted by an independent lab, (not by the beauty industry) showed that the toluene exposure was only 1/100th of the federal (OSHA) safe exposure level. In other words, the nail technician in the salon, applying nail care products all day, is only getting 0.5% of the amount of toluene that is considered a dangerous level. And the exposure for salon or spa consumer is significantly less.
Q: Do SpaRitual Products contain toluene?
A: SpaRitual continually strives to provide the safest and most effective nail care products in the industry. After significant research and weighing the facts we decided that the elimination of toluene from SpaRitual Nail Lacquers would not improve the safety of our products, and would be adversely affect the performance of the line. We did, however, locate a safe, effective alternative for toluene when we developed the line of SpaRitual Nail Elixirs and therefore, do not use toluene in our nail treatment products.
