Picture this: It was 1993 at the Perry Ellis Spring runway show, designed by the legendary Marc Jacobs. I had been asked to assist Kevyn Aucoin–talk about a big break! Although it turned out to be a controversial show and ultimately led to Marc Jacobs’ dismissal from Perry Ellis, the experience marked an unforgettable turning point for both him and me.

With my lack of experience at the time, none of the major models (I’m talking Linda, Christy, Cindy, and Naomi) dared to sit in my chair.  However, Carla Bruni, the woman who would later become France’s First Lady, showed me kindness by jumping into my open chair. She sweetly asked, “First time?” I, of course, said yes. She, with grace, said, “You’ve got this!” Every time I would see her she would smile and nod to our kept secret. Never underestimate how an act of kindness can change someone’s life. I still to this day 30 years later carry this with me.

Fast forward to today–now more than ever, I am committed to providing clean beauty guidance in a world where beauty trends evolve in just the blink of an eye. Fall 2023 is no exception.
