Skin Flooding

A Skincare Ark for the Dry and Parched

In colder days, my skincare routine undergoes a transformation, and this season, I’m all about skin flooding. Yes, I said skin flooding–the TikTok trend that took over our social media feeds. In truth, this “trend” has been around for years, but has operated without the snappy moniker. Below you’ll find my favorite skin flooding products that I’m using this season.

The aim of skin flooding is to saturate or “flood” the skin with intensive hydration. This application creates a plump, hydrated, and dewy complexion. During the colder months, our skin battles harsh environmental elements as well as dry house heat, leading to dehydration, flakiness, and dullness.

How I Skin Flood

Here are the four key steps I follow in my skin flooding routine:

Step 1: Cleansing

To start, I cleanse my face as I regularly would, removing the day’s dirt and debris. Best to start with a clean canvas. After cleansing, leave your face slightly damp. The entire skin flooding routine to follow will benefit from the water on your face, as it will help to lock in any products you use.

Step 2: Facial Mist

Next step – a facial mist. This is great to really saturate your face. Any product that follows will be better absorbed, and be more effective. I’ve always been in love with facial mists, and am happy to see its formal place in a skin-flooding regime.

Step 3: Hydrating Serums

I apply a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum to my damp skin. In addition to being anti-inflammatory, hyaluronic acid attracts and holds onto water molecules–a key benefit for optimal hydration. Using the tips of my fingers, I gently massage the product into my face, neck, and decollete aka, neckécolleté.

Step 4: Moisturizer

To finish, I apply a moisturizer to lock in all the moisture and keep my skin hydrated throughout the day or night and create a barrier to protect against external aggressors. Our skin has a natural barrier, but it’s never a bad idea to give it some backup with a rich moisturizer.

In conclusion, skin flooding is more than a trend; it’s a cold and dryer day necessity. Consider embracing this hydrating practice. You’ll soon see what the hype is all about!

Forever grateful and rooted in beauty –
