Monochrome Eye Makeup
“Makeup is meant to be playful. There’s no better place to start than your eye!” –CC
The monochromatic eye makeup look has shown up on countless runways and fashion editorial spreads. As a makeup artist, I always carry with me a handful of eye pencils and shadows that work on everyone. Outside of the fashion world, a monochromatic eye is a technique that anyone can wear in their everyday lives. A monochromatic eye simply matches a shade of eyeshadow with an eyeliner of the same or similar color. It can be amped up and turned into a smokey eye or dialed down for a more demure look. And the beauty of a monochromatic eye? It’s very easy to apply!
The colors you choose for your monochromatic look don’t have to match your eye color, but they can be used to accentuate the color variations in your iris. I have a handful of faithful pencils and shadows that live in my makeup kit and are my trusted products for delivering a beautiful monochromatic look.
Make it Matte
An everyday matte monochromatic look is flattering on everyone and is neutral enough for work and play. I’ve recently discovered Mob Beauty, and I’m loving their matte eyeshadow in M8, a soft matte sable. It pairs nicely with Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner in Cocoa, which is a decadent rich matte brown.
Adding a touch of color is a great way to go bold with your matte eye makeup. As you know, I live in vintage Levis, so naturally, I’ve whipped up the perfect denim-toned monochrome eye. For a pop of color, pair the Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner in Navy Noir with Mob Beauty’s matte eyeshadow in M39, a matte cobalt blue, to create an ink-dipped look.
Go For Gold

A gold shimmery eyelid works on every skin tone and Victoria Beckham’s Beauty Satin Kajal Liner is a great choice for a gold-tone monochromatic look. It’s highly pigmented and fortified with provitamin B5 and chamomile extract to nourish the skin. For a playful look, I like to apply the Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal liner in Bronze, which is a golden brown with shimmer, with Victoria Beckham Lid Lustre in Honey, which is a medium golden bronze with gold pearl.
Opt For Olive
Olive green is a subtle take on adding color to a monochrome eye. Mob Beauty’s eyeshadow in M48 is a shimmering olive tone that works any time of day. I like to wear this eyeshadow with Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Satin Kajal Liner in Olive. Together, these two create a luxe, antiqued forest green look that offers a subtle sparkle in any light. This look can be dressed up or down and will flatter any eye color.
