The Health and Beauty Benefits of Infrared Saunas

We all are aware that taking vitamins, eating whole foods, and exercising are non-negotiable when it comes to maintaining our mental and physical well-being. But what else can we do regularly to sustain our longevity? For me, the biggest answer to this question is personal saunas, something I previously reserved for a once-in-a-while indulgence.

Given my aversion to pools of random strangers’ sweat, I treated myself to my first sauna as a birthday present back in 2018. I didn’t form a habit of regularly using it until 2021 when I went to a wellness retreat in Florida called Hippocrates which awakened my own personal wellness journey. There is nothing better to open up your detox pathways than a sauna. Through all the sweat, you can rid your body of a lot of toxins.

The use of saunas can be traced back thousands of years across various cultures, but at-home saunas are more readily available than ever before. They are an excellent way to relax while detoxifying. I’ve personally found that incorporating a sauna into my morning routine has helped me tremendously with my healing journey, specifically in dealing with mold. (If you know you know, if not I hope you never do!)  My time in the sauna is meditative and often spurs some creative thinking.

After loads of research, I choose to invest in the Clearlight Sanctuary™ Sauna. If you’re looking for an at-home sauna, I can’t recommend this one enough. Also made by Clearlight is the HigherDOSE Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna, which is also a good option. Both brands are equipped with low EMF carbon heaters, chromotherapy lighting, and many other features.

If you’re thinking about diving into the world of infrared saunas but aren’t ready to commit to a full-sized unit, a portable infrared sauna may be the perfect option. The Thera360 PLUS Personal Sauna by Therasage is a compact alternative that delivers all the benefits of a full-sized sauna. A bonus? These tend to be readily available to ship whereas the in-home, full-size units like Clearlight can have a challenging lead time.

Below are some favorite sauna benefits provided by the manufacturers.

Detox and De-Stress

Infrared saunas are known to support the lymphatic system, which helps to provide immune support to the body.  The infrared light produces radiant heat, which is known to penetrate the skin more deeply than a traditional sauna. It causes a profuse and deep sweat, flushing out toxins and reducing the body’s overall toxic load.

Mission: Blood Circulation

If you’ve ever sat in a sauna after a workout, you can recall how the sauna’s heat relaxes your tense muscles. The heat of the sauna helps to increase blood flow and reduce blood pressure, relieving minor aches and pains and improving overall well-being.

Sweat and Glow

A bonus to getting in your sauna is the improvement of skin tone and its ability to reduce signs of aging by stimulating better circulation, blood flow, and increased collagen production.

Incorporating saunas into your wellness routine is a great way to flush out toxins while quieting the mind. Happy sweating!
